Welcome to Reef2Reef!!

Pictures would help us see what's going on. It could be an algea film growing on the rocks. Which would be very normal with dry rock early on.

Hello and welcome
In new tanks, usually first thing to show = diatoms so look up diatoms and see if same/ similar but pictures sure would be helpful
Little article on algaes
And another on common hitch hikers.

Good luck and enjoy

Welcome to R2R! Without pictures I can't help much, but that sounds like the beginnings of a diatom bloom. It is normal, and a sign that your tank is maturing.

If you are growing gold, please send me your methods! Alchemists have been trying to do this for years. Reefs generally get diatoms, as other have mentioned but eventually those white rocks will have lots of stuff grow on them!

How long has the tank been wet?
