I've had my yellow tang for almost a year, he's probably just over a year old in total. A few days ago I noticed a white circle in the middle of his body (not spec or dot an actual discoloration in the shape of a circle) now today there are a few more near his head. I've made no recent additions to the tank, my alk went from 10.8 to 9.4 over the last 4 days so slowly, that's really the only parameter that has changed.

Still eats fine, acting normally, haven't fed nori in a while, I have a GHA outbreak so there's plenty for him to eat.

Thoughts?

Great pictures! I'm thinking it's the beginning of HLLE. A good healthy diet including Nori would be best here. Get more hermits to eat the GHA and give the tang the nori. Adding vitamin supplements to his other foods (nutritional meaty and vegi options) like Selcon or vitachem would go a long way to helping. Also, be sure any carbon you are using is the highest quality you can get a hold of and not grinding against itself. The last thing is to be sure the water quality stays pristine while he tries to heal up.

no I dont think that will cause HLLE. Be sure to get a good vitamin supplement to add to his food as well.

I feed live black worms and Frozen mysis. I've tried soaking pellets in garlic/vitamin supplement but my fish won't touch it.

Maybe I'll just do a combination of the black worms and pellets instead of the mysis. But the dang coral beauty will only eat mysis...

Thanks for the help!

mysis is great for them! You can soak the worms and mysis in the vitamins as well.

Thanks! I'll check that, only thing I added recently was a gyre.

There's a problem with those sometimes. The cord (inside the tank) becomes brittle and the wires get exposed.

This one is brand new, hope it doesn't have any issues lol. Going to check tomorrow don't have a ground near the tank so I'll have to get an extension cord.

As others have said, I recommend regular feeding of nori to fix that. Good thing you caught it now before it got more advanced. I've also seen very high levels of nitrate or phosphate cause tissue erosion, but that's generally more rare and relegated to neglected tanks. Most times it's a dietary component that's lacking. Good luck!

Nori, It is definitely a diet issue Hair algae is not a good diet for a tang. It's like you eating nothing but potato chips all day you would get sick.
You can pick up Nori at most grocery stores now days. Thou, I don't like it as much as LRS nori but it will work. Tangs also can change colors some depending on how scared they feel.

As you have stated you have a high nutrient issue with your tank, imo I would stop the pellets and feed good frozen foods and nori. This will help the health of the fish and help with the high nutrients assuming you're not overfeeding the tank which happens all the time. Anyways just my .02

I'm not over feeding and I haven't been feeding pellets.

I wasn't trying to offend, Ime gha is caused by excess nutrients which can come from not using rodi water and overfeeding. At any rate good luck
