As the title says, my bottle of ATI Elements Iodine has a faint yellowish discoloration. I'm curious if it is safe to use or if the discoloration represents a chemical change in the solution (presumably sodium or potassium iodide). Bottle has been stored in the dark at 75 F for several months. Previous bottles of the same solution have been clear.

Thanks!

Assuming it was initially colorless, it might either be a little bit of I2 (as I3-) formed by oxidizing I- (which may also mean it has significant iodate , IO3-, which is also colorless) or maybe some trace element in it, such as iron, has oxidized to a more yellow color.

I'd still use it, if you are testing in a fashion that will detect iodate as well as iodide.

I'm currently doing monthly ICP testing, so I would assume that would pick up both?
