If you look at it in that aspect yes they do need special attention like pods and so on. But if somebody did thier research and was prepared before they got the fish. I mean a stocked refugium by prepared. They shouldn't have an issue. Maybe stock it with some pods every few months and your good to go. By hardy I mean they adjust well to fluctuating parameters in your water and they don't tend to just get sick for no reason and die.Hardy? only if they eat frozen and even then they can go off it for no reason. I would not call a mandrin a "hardy" fish. They are beautiful without a doubt, but a rather difficult fish to keep for many due to their feeding demands.
