I've been thinking about this for a while and I wanted to know what you think about it and would also like your feedback on what we might need to add.

I think it would be a good idea to have a reefing profile area for each of our members (those that want to participate) that has a quick access link from your profile area. Maybe a tank profile badge under your name or something.

The goal is still being fleshed out but a couple reasons would be a place where people could access your tank info immediately if you need help with something, a way to share you info quickly with R2R outsiders, also a place where you would have tank images as well.

I would want this to be a super detailed view of your system or systems. We would have info like the date you started, stock lists, equipment lists etc..

Then we would populate this data in a neat area in your profile that will take one click to get to. I'm also looking at the possibility of you being able to have a vanity URL where you could share this info outside of R2R with people who you would like to share your tank with. Maybe even QR Codes for someone to scan off your phone or something.

So I need two sets of answers from you.

1. What do you think?

2. What data about your tanks should we allow you to include?

Think of this like your baseball card or your pokemon card for reefing. Shows your skills, shows your stats, shows your info etc...

Thank you!

Sounds cool… my tank is only a week old so I’m voided! :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

No we would want to have a card on you that shows all your equipment etc..

Interesting idea!

In terms of data, as much relevant info as possible. This is just a start of some high level ideas...
  • Size of tank
  • Equipment: sump, pump(s), wavemaker(s), protein skimmer, dosers, ATS, CO2 scrubber, refugium, etc., etc.
  • Lighting: type(s) and schedule(s)
  • Dosing: when, what, where
  • Start date: not of the build, but when you started the initial cycle.
  • Goals: do you have them? if no, why not?
  • Substrates: crushed coral, sand, bare bottom
  • Current load: corals, fish, etc.
    • Clean up crew
  • Water changes: yes or no, frequency
  • Salt brand
  • Water source: tap, RO, RODI, distilled, etc.
  • Feeding: frequency, what foods?
  • Params: often shift, but an idea of where you keep them might suffice (i.e., I try to maintain Alk at 8.0dkh, Ca at 450 and Mg around 1450 at 35ppt salinity).
  • Testing of Parameters: what brands, what tests and frequency. ICP?
  • Images are a great idea and can provide a good amount of information

THIS is the kinda responses we're looking for! Thank you!

EDIT: This "equipment" subcategories should contain:

Filter type (sump, canister, HOB)
Media types (carbon, GFO, etc.)
Nutrient export (skimmer, algae scrubber, refugium, etc.)

Probably also need:
Flow
climate control (heating or cooling)

And I guess a controller might fall under testing???

That's hardcore but I'd be in to it.

LOVE THIS. Such a good idea!! Would make it so much easier to share current tank information without finding a previous post and copying all of the data over.

Sounds like a great way to compile marketable data that will be used to gain more sponsors or bring income in other ways.

Absolutely has zero bearing in why I was thinking about this. It's actually a tool that I hope will bring people more help faster and encourage other people to join R2R to set up their "reef card." It will also help members identify better sources of information based on the successes of other people's tanks.

We have so much data like this and have never once used it in a marketing way. I don't have the resources, man-power, or skill-set.

I love this idea. There’s so many times I come across someone making an interesting comment and I want to find out more context for it.

I like the idea of directing my non-reefing friends to show them what this hobby is about. Maybe a tldr version or section and then the full breakdown for fellow reefers.

There should be a date when it was last updated and possibly even a notification to the user if it hasn’t been updated in the last 6 months (optional of course since notifications can be very annoying).

This would be helpful in troubleshooting problems too.

When people ask for help, a lot of this is the stuff they would get asked to provide anyway.

I think this would be a great idea, knowing what the person has in the tank without having to search for it. Plus would be beneficial for people wanting to know what exactly is in someone's tank!

This sounds like a great idea. A couple of other bits of useful info would be any schematics or diagrams of the system and details about salt mixing stations / water processing setups. Also, details of any controller / monitoring / automation potentially with code / scripts where interesting.

I can imagine this as a complement to a build thread that could even automatically include the system details in a section at the start of the build thread when present.

Keep in mind when designing this that each user could have multiple tanks / build threads.
