I just saw two people selling their Reef savvy 300 gallon tank and stand for 20k selling for 3k.

Now that's depreciation. Even than they had problem selling.
Atleast in corals and fishes you always sell it for better price. Trade to lfs. Or move to your new tank.

Maybe cheaper, but to us end consumer we pay same. I see some aluminum vendor making tank stand kits for 120 gallon for 800 dollars. You still have to skin it etc.

I have a 1.5in steel powder coated stand for 4 years now.
No skin on it, as I am lazy.
No rust. Still look new. I don't think we keep tank or stand long enough for it to rust.
We always upgrade etc.
Yeah, a lot of the powder coated steel stands are 20 plus years old that I placed in service and there is rust just not enough to create a structural problem.

I guess that was more of my question is custom worth it from one of these builders if you are getting a standard sized tanks. Sorry I hijacked guys.
I am not going to put down these custom builders. These guys are amazing.
Like I said if you want it go for it.
But I tried once and I am going to use someone ready in 3 weeks.
Unless you want 300 gallon plus. Than you are custom.

Bit I can personally say. Joe, Tenecor for acrylic, Reef Savvy, C2C etc
Are all amazing.

Aquariums are money pits and maybe even worse than Trailers and R.V.s for depreciation. They might rank lower than time shares.

20 years is good time. Even my car is rusted and gone. Just some sanding and new paint it will be amazing again.
Aluminum is good, bit the vendors have made it expensive now.

Not really, if you buy 200 gallon Innovative Marine stand and Aquarium for 6k you can sell for 1500
Custom will be atleast 8k to 13k and will sell for 1500.
See the difference. I am talking same dimensions etc.

Sold though. I had a chance.

It was tank, stand, sump and canopy from Reef savvy.
Total 15k to 20k setup
Went for 3000 dollars.

All the time this happens.

If you are in this hobby to make money get out fast, purchase what fits your budget. I bought a Crystal Dynamic 72 x 30 x24 pre pandemic and it is still sitting in my garage, I guess I wanted to move by now, but the side wants to stay.
Same
I bought my C2C in 2018 July
Sat in garage till 2020 Jan
During Corona I setup.
It's funny how some guys like to buy equipment. I love equipment part and chase to collect.
Setup I get lazy. Hahah

Yeap that is me, my wife says how many skimmer do you need? I am tempted to buy a IM tank. It is easier to buy and transfer a tank, then trying to move a tank.
