Zoas can and will spread to any surface they can contact. So, yes they would climb up the rock.
You had to out do my garden, ha. Beautiful!Create a garden on separate rock similar to what I did
That's a really nice zoa garden!I would do a zoa garden on an island not in contact with the main rock. Here is a picture of mine. Good luck.
Get yourself a rock similar to this and plant different zoa variety to start your garden
Are you looking at palythoa as well? I just ordered 3 frags and would be happy to track and give data. That's a really nice zoa garden!
I'm working on a zoanthid study with a couple of people I'm in grad school with. I posted a link below to the survey. Basically we are contrasting zoanthid weekly growth vs tank parameters to make a zoanthid growth predictive model. It would be awesome to follow a couple of colonies in your garden over some amount of time. If you decide to submit some data we would be super grateful, if not, it's no big deal!
Zoanthid & Palythoa Data Collection
Scope: Comprehensive study of growth patterns of zoanthids in home reef environments Timeline: Report published by June 2024; ongoing after if there's interest. Methodology: Develop predictive method for home reef parameters and zoanthid husbandry outcomes through measurements of weekly growth...docs.google.com
