Zoa placement question

I just got this zoa frag yesterday. No where on my rocks are there holes deep enough for the frag plug to fit in. The frag is a little suspended over the rock. Will the zoas still grow down onto the rock?

I cut off the bottom of the plus and leave the flat part so I can place it anywhere I want

A good set of bone cutters are a common tool for dealing with plugs and frags because they can usually cut or chip through the plug stems or even around the edges if they're visible.

Just be careful to shield whatever is around you when you cut it, the pressure can send pieces flying if you're not expecting it.

Think I might order some of these. I have two bone cutters made for fragging ($$$), and one snapped and the other is now dull from trying to cut super hard stems--some stems are easy and pop right off, some must have been designed at NASA.

I cut off the bottom of most plugs with a diamond blade with small Dremel tool.
