Just noticed that the bag instructions are designed to mix to 33 ppt not 35 ppt, which I thought was weird.

I'm used to using IO, does it matter if I switch back to IO after using the bag up?

Most salts never seem to mix to 35 or at least have a couple of different options on the tub, for Lps, SPS, fish only, seems a little daft as they all come from the same sea, I think some use 33 to make it look like their salt goes farther.

I wouldn’t let that put you off the salt as its an excellent salt.

But to answer your question, no issue in changing salt back, but AF is around 8dkh whereas IO is over 11dkh which are total opposite of each other so you would have to watch your alk.

410 g per 10 litres will get you 35ppt every time after a good dry mix and shake. Been using this salt for a while. Mixes quickly and clean.

I caught that too add brought it to 35ppt.
Years ago some manufactures used 33 to compensate for useable gallons, evaporation and error.

Interesting...I think it will drive me nuts having like a tiny bit of salt left after mixing 15 gallons.

I checked two other salts, the first two I checked both have a similar dose, Red sea has 33ppt and Tropic Marin 32-35 so Aquaforest is no different.

And just to check, Instant Ocean which the OP said they were changing back to because Aquaforest suggest a salinity of 33ppt, Instant Ocean actually suggest a much lower salinity of 30ppt!

They are all just trying to make you think you are getting more salt for your money, advertise “200 gallons” box of salt that really only makes 170-180 gallons at normal salinity. Aquaforest is good salt, whatever brand you use just mix to appropriate salinity.

Oh no I wasn't changing back because of salinity, I just used to buy IC by the pallet in my grad school days. Never had issues with it.
