Forum advice is just that, advice. Not everything your told is going to work for you. Your tank is it's own individual system and it needs it's own individual care.

Crushed coral is NOT a good substrate for a reef tank.
Substrate = the sand bed.
A good sized sand should be .5 - 2mm.

If you see a fish at your LFS that you HAVE TO HAVE ask to put it on hold and think about it for a few days. Make sure you meet all the requirements and that your fish will be happy with your current residents.

Make sure you turn off power to everything inside the tank before sticking your hands in it.

Do regular water changes. Your routine maintenance will help keep things in check.

Over the years I have learned that successful reef keeping depends on the following:
- stable water chemistry that mimics natural seawater
- water movement (I use VorTech / Eco Tech Marine)
- good light (I use LED system)
- committment to sound husbandry practices
- a good reference library

i have come to learn that you should always dip your new corals in a dip solution before adding to display tank .it is really difficult to get rid of unwanted pest so a quarantine tank would be a good idea to keep n eye on your new corals to make sure no pests get introduced into the main aquarium

Majano Anemones spread just as fast or faster than aiptasia. They aren't cute, get rid of them before they spread and sting your corals. (Aiptasia X works great!)

Learn how to do a perfect water change. And do it regularly. It is the best thing you can do for your reef.

Test your water daily for the first 3 weeks to see when your tank has finished cycling so you can add livestock to your tank.

Before filling a new tank make sure it is level on all four sides. An unlevel tank can cause stress on seams and cause the tank to crack or blowout.

To help stabilize your tank lay a sheet of styrofoam underneath the tank to reduce stress on the seams of the tank.

cheers,
Darren

Never use styrofoam under a framed glass tank. They are designed to be supported by the frame and not have pressure on the actual bottom.
