i would cut the frag above the encrusted part so that way you have a frag of crust as a backup this will also grow into a frag that way you have 2 of them

Question regarding photoperiod: How long is too long for coral health?

Currently have it set up for 10 hours with a 1 hour ramp up and 1 hour ramp down (11:30 - 9:30). I am noticing some of the corals (new trachy and new torches in particular) start to shrink up around 8:00. Could this be too much light for them?

I am using the Radion LPS template halfway through acclimation mode to 70% schedule. This would put the LPS corals in about 160-200 PAR at peak (except the trachy which is in 140 PAR).

That photo period sounds reasonable; they are likely acclimating from different lighting and time period, might want to pull back a bit then gradually get back to where you were (or shade them).

I think you're fine, some people have longer periods then that.

Nearly all my corals do that a few hours before lights out. Just like my wrasse goes to bed about the same time. I haven't been reef keeping long but I think it's normal for them to wind down in the evenings.

This thread led to a new tool for me to pack resin, a new tool for photography, a BC box set, a dedicated SBB rack and most of all a rejuvenation of my stale upgrade that sat dormant (long story there) oh- and a b4d4ss sticker. Cash Admittedly-
