I appreciate it! So, just getting my nitrate tester set up but phosphates I tested 3x. Only because it's a used tester so I'm still verifying it doesn't do weird stuff.
Test 1 was fresh out the tank.
Test 2+3 were like 45 mins later so I'm sure water has cooled and maybe done other stuff? Idk if it would effect the tests but there was some variance so maybe?

Test 1: .01
Test 2: .06
Test 3: .04
Results are +/- 0.03

My assumption is that 0.04 is about the correct result.

Before. I only started the reactor because I had done consistent 15-20% water changes weekly for a month or so and saw no improvement and my phosphates were super high when I finally tested them
Okay that's what I thought.
Interested to see nitrate.
Water changes will effect phosphate but mostly nitrate.
A lot of us see cyno as heinous but I just see it as a sign that somethings out of ballance.
Let's see if we can help.

If you started the tank with dry rock your uglies are gonna be fun. Let it ride, add a whole mess of pods let them help with the uglies. Cyano is a pain and ugly but it’ll go away once the tank is more established. I also chased the equipment train … I finally took the GFO/Carbon reactor offline and let nature do its thing.

Let the nutrients stabilize - I do carbon does with TropicMarin NP Bacto Balance. That helps keep things in line.

I am 45 pages late so … yeah

I want a zoa gardeb front and center so I'm thinking i might buy some live rock to stick there for it. Not a lot, maybe 10-15 lbs?

The pages add up quick BTW. Thats why @luis angel was supposed to provide recaps but @kevgib67 just pushed way too hard and now our internship on hiatus

Which is right on track to what I had before. Hovering around 5 with weekly water changes and I didn't do one this weekend
This is what I thought.
So I'm going to suggest no water changes for at least another week, overfeed and let it ride a bit.
If the cyno is bothering you take a paper towel/filter pad and just take them off manually.
Believe it or not they will go away on their own.
Don't run the reactor.
Tim has it spot on with the range of error on the tester and I'm thinking as he did.
I'm now going to have to dose my small tank with something since it tests at 0 and 0. Yikes.
I've done nothing to get it there it did it on its own.
Let yours ride a bit, hide the testers for a week and not worry about it so much right now.
Just my 2 cents.

Any and all actual live rock added is a plus.

Basically overfeeding to chase the phosphates with nitrates? Or to give the better bacteria something to eat before the cyano starves them?
