Cultivated reef said they had some in their sump(it wouldn't have coralline) but I could buy that and it's been in their systems for a longggg time.
At least then I know its not dry rock that's been in the water for 3 days before i bought it. I know their live rock had sponges galore when I was looking at it so im sure there's loads of other live in it

Yes.
Very nice addition.
I'd do it.

I got mine from a friend’s sump, it had been in there about three decades. No light so no coralline but enough bacteria for an instant cycle.

Basically overfeeding to chase the phosphates with nitrates? Or to give the better bacteria something to eat before the cyano starves them?
Basically that's the right idea.
I don't explain myself very well.
Tim is much more well spoken than I am.

I got mine off of Facebook from someone getting out of the hobby.
Probably 20 years old.
No cycle for me either.

Paprika
Onion
Garlic
Black pepper
Salt
Tomato or tomato sauce
Cooking wine
Oregano
Cumin
Bay leaves
You can add dry raisins or olives
Wait….cooking wine?…just add a little of what’s in your glass! That’s what I’d do.

Cultivated reefs website states it was established in 1999 so :thinking-face: could be like a quarter of Kevin's age and that's a big number!

So....
Not chemist so I stay off that forum.
I'm also very non confrontational lol.
I think that every tank attains a ballance of nutrients where all algae and bacteria are happy.
Each tank is different and new tanks struggle in the beginning.
Most not all.
Phosphate and nitrate go hand in hand and I believe yours will get there.
They're just a tad low right now.
Sometimes it's high phos low trates or vice versa.
What I tell people who ask is when cyno appears do what you do without changing water.
When it goes away test, see where you are at and find your own tanks ratio.
Probably makes no sense but that's the only way I know how to explain it.

Like I said.
No scientist Mike.
Just experience I wanted to share.
You have been a wonderful addition to this thread and I want you to succeed.
You deserve it my friend.
I've used gfo for years and tried everything else in between chasing that perfect tank.
In the end I just went back to my simple old school ways and it works for me.
I don't believe in new fancy way to reef it is just so complicated and weird to me.
I hope I've been able to help.

I absolutely appreciate it Joel! I can't wait to have some actual growth from my corals to show it's all working! As is they have all opened up nicely and I'm seeing good polyp extension on everything!

I agree, I’m not doing much different than when I started in the mid nineties.

I wonder if I didn’t have a lot of these issues because I kick started my first tank with real sea water? Anyone else think using a few of these would make a difference?

Buy it. Best thing you’ll do to help get that good good bacteria they all say to get.

Well so far so good but I would feel better if we were up 3 touchdowns by the half. Of course if we were 3 touchdowns up at the half I would feel more comfortable if we were up by 4 touchdowns and so on and so on.

I also thought about buying some live sand? I mean my sand has some bacteria but I'm after diversity right?
If you do get Tampa Bay live sand, tons of diversity.
