I believe the 90's starts grunge.
I think alternative started in Jamaica in the 60 's or with Chuck Berry but I think true alternative started in the 80's.
At least it did for me.

We’ve got a heat wave tomorrow. I’m going to stay in the air conditioning and drink a lot of fluids.

Reminds me of when we first got married and my wife moved to western Oregon from central California. It used to crack her up when there would be heat warnings on the radio because they were expecting 2 days in a row of 100 degree weather.
