So I decided to put baffles in a 10 gallon AGA to give my new SCA-302 skimmer a nice place to live. I had the glass cut in 1/4'' and the edges sanded for under $20.
The dimensions: 2 @ 8 1/2'' X 9 5/8'' = 1st and last baffle
1 @ 9 1/2'' X 9 5/8'' = middle baffle (9 1/2 with 1'' gap to bottom places the glass close to the top of the tank. 3 @ 8 1/2'' would have been fine too.)
I used the 10g that was in use, so I had to replace it with a Temp 10g that I drilled for a over sump fuge.
1st I washed it out with fresh water and dried it out. I then measured the space requirement for the skimmer and decided it would be best to just use a single bubble trap right in the center of the tank. This would give me just enough room for my skimmer and a decent size return section for evaporation.
I marked out the baffle placement at 9'' 10'' and 11'' respectively.
Test fit with marks for first measurements that I ended up ditching.
How I redid my lines with the new measurements. Made dots then used a straight edge to connect them.
I placed the middle baffle 1st. I used 3 jewel cases to achieve a 1'' gap under the baffle. I aligned the glass with the lines on the outside of the tank. I then taped everything down so I could silicone without it moving.
View of the lineup of the glass.
I ran my silicone with the tip cut at a 45 degree angle and with a 1/8'' opening. I used my wet finger to smooth the bead. I didn't care if it was a little messy.
