They’re recommending Naturas on a 5 foot tall tank? Seems off…
Yeah, no. The naturas are just not powerful enough to reach 5' deep again. I find it hard to believe they would recommend the Naturas must have talked to someone wanting to make a sale and not thinking whats best for this application. The Amazonia's would be the better choice but looking at the specs I am not 100% sure those would penetrate deep enough.

Especially since on their website it says that the naturas only go down 30".

things that will never happen lol, sorry bud this is a silly pipe dream. Someone needs to talk some sense into you, you're 17, this is not a project to take on now. You've got so much more to learn before you're ready for this.

Why would you want a 5ft tall tank that’s only 7ft long? I think you would relieve tons of headaches by just making it a more manageable 3ft tall. It would look better IMO too.
agree-5 feet deep is INSANE. You will be biting off way more than you can chew. I'm assuming money isnt a factor here as well. 200 is a challenge with a good deal of time and effort- 2000 is for professionals.

I would rather have it less wide, and less long than shorter.

Many people are commenting about the height. At the LFS I worked at years ago, we had an 8x4x4 reef tank as a display. It is a lot of work, but the height is truly stunning. It feels like you walk up to a wall of fish, and no short tank can compare. I have a link to a slide show someone made when it was first set up. When it came down there were SPS larger than basketballs. A Softie/ Mixed tank of this size was not hard other than glass and sand cleaning. It is very difficult to clean the large acrylic panes and vacuum the bottom. I would strongly consider crushed coral or a heavier grain substrate as these are easier to clean and common in large tanks.

Um.... ok... I think. Don't understand your point, but sure.
the point is right there buddy, you don't actually have any clue about running a tank this large, nevermind the fact that's its not even your own home. You're about to spend a bunch of money, seemingly not your own, to build a massive aquarium in your parents home.

You are disregarding some serious issues here, like the floor the tank is sitting on for example. I know you said your dad said "it would be fine" but it certainly won't be fine.

You don't seem to have a good grasp on reefing in general, or the equipment required to actually succeed with a tank this size. You're realistically looking at $100k+ to actually get this thing running.

Sorry man, but I really think you should take a step back and chill for a bit, you're getting ahead of yourself. This is not your home, its clear it's your passion, which is great, but do it once you have a home of your own. Just focus on school and making enough money of your own, to then buy your own house, and buy your own huge aquarium.

TBH, it feels like you're already in over your head.

I am not using student loans for college, my dad saved up money since I was born for all 3 of us (me and 2 brothers). The fish tank money is weird story but don't really worry about it. I also have plenty of my own hard earned cash saved in s&p 500 for later down the road.
at least you’re doing something right with parking your money in that index fund. Respect.

You have ball$ the size of watermelons if you actually take this on. Your parents too

It’s entertaining more than anything! I wish him the best of luck and would love to see it a reality some day! Like you said it’s 100k easily if it’s all fully automated! I don’t see that happening but who knows, maybe polo is his uncle haha!

I saw that, thank you. The video seams looks like it's for fresh water. Also doesn't seem enough power. Definitely some inspiration. I'm not sure if i can make it, also considering 1 amazoa960 is ≈1k it's not too bad.
