I'm 100% acanthos

I've avoided scolies since they're smaller and felt like I get more value for my money with acanthos

But thinking about getting a scoly

How else are they different from acanthos. It looks like they're both similar, but scolies look like discs, much skinnier, much smaller, and some are OK on the rocks. Anything else?

I feel like scolys are easier to keep than acanthos but this may just be in my systems. Also personally find scolys a bit more practical for gardens since acanthos need so much space to expand.

You don’t get more value because acantho is way more money. You get a bigger coral for more money

My Warpaint scoly has been rock solid for years. Even through tank crashes and neglect

The colors are vibrant, it’s reactive under blues, it’s 3” across and was $250

I also have a Aussie Orange one, little smaller but was less money also, around $150 E29FEB49-93C3-4895-A32E-920A176844D2.jpeg

also don’t mix up with button scoly.

Button scoly isn’t a scoly, it’s more like an acan. They just call them button scoly because it looks like a miniature scoly, these grow to about 1-1.5” I believe

Also! Acantho takes up a lot of space. Can be 8”. Scolymia and Button scoly are great for filling in spaces you can’t fit acantho.

I like calling them mini scolys because the common name isn't particularly important as long as there arent 2 corals called "mini scolys"...theyre perfect for pico and nano tanks!

Scoliosis (Homophyllia australis) are endemic to coastal Australia and prefer colder waters than most corals in the hobby.
