The 125 gal tank has been going for 1.5 months. No ugly stage, no real algae, sometimes some diatoms but CUC is keeping everything pretty clean so far. Also have coraline already--had to scrape off glass and the rocks are starting to show it. Still working to get CA/ALK/Mg numbers where they need to be and just started doing water changes. Tank now has 6 fish as of this weekend.
The sump has a refugium (14x14?) with live rock and sand from a smaller tank I emptied. Have dragons breath (I think growing or gracellia sp?). And lots of algae. Flow seems a bit too slow so may add a power head to the skimmer side if needed to push flow a bit more. Has pods also. May move a rock or 2 back to the fish qt when I need live rock or pods for whatever fish in qt--and remove it if I medicate.
question: is the algae bad to have in the sump? Is it using excess nutrients and keeping them out of display. I do have high nitrate 20ish, sometimes more, sometimes less. I can add trochus snails-I have a ton of them and I'd need to adjust the egg crate top and maybe put a mesh screen between fuge and skimmer chamber to keep them from getting into that area, unless that is okay. I did toss in a large hermit (a story in and of itself) to feast on the algae. Prob. don't have to add pellets for it
Also using a kingbo led light with gooseneck. Is this overkill? Too much light. I tried some chaeto and it just melted and made a mess in the fuge.

Any thoughts on my fuge helpful and appreciated.
You can see the hermit on the left side where the water flows in. Gate between 2 sections is raise all the way up. Need to put a screen mesh there
