I'm thinking about getting an algae scrubber. I don't have a sump (yet) and am looking for ideas on how to plumb it. If I really can't do it, I might just get a 20 gallon tub and make it my sump. Ideas on both?

A tub or a sump will work. What is your tank and setup now? A pic makes people who know something about it offer advice. A scrubber requires a little bit of room, or externally pumped through. Pic of the setup please.

I have a 65B. Just a HOB Skimmer. I eventually want a sump of some sort (even if it is a tub for now) but idk if I want it right now if I can get the algae scrubber running without it.

Ok, that setup the way it is will require a small pump to feed the scrubber into a tub, and a pump to get the scrubbed water back into the display tank. You'll need a light, a tub, build the scrubber, 2 pumps, and some hose. Maybe find a HOB shell and make a mini model? Then only 1 pump and no tub.

You could sit it atop your aquarium & run it with a dedicated pump, with the scrubber overflow going directly back into the aquarium (of course).
Sitting on top of a sump, you could use a dedicated pump to supply it with water, or, plumb the scrubber to the tank overflow, with the scrubber overflow directly into the sump
