Thank you for the advice. One last question Petco offered me to test my water are they accurate?

They probably use API too. Ask them which test kits they use if you are still there.

FWIW a lot of people wouldn't bother testing ammonia once the tank has finished the initial cycle. You have nitrate and are supporting life.

I’ve been experiencing a similar problem. Check out my post here and if you want some really valuable info, have a read of the article that Randy shared. That level of ammonia is far less of a concern than you think.
