Color changes in corals and anemones in a captive system reflect water quality and (artificial) sunlight that is present in the aquarium. Newly moved animals often shift their colors from changes in their internal light catching microbiomes. My inferno anemones, all splits in the same tank have a range of dominant colors from yellow to orange, with green and blue mouths of such wide variety that they don't always appear to be clowns based upon their colorations and inflation sizes that will change over time just to make me angry.
I don't get angry, really, but I do wonder how come they behave this way?
It's fascinating how their colorations can shift due to factors like water quality and lighting and how their inflation can vary over time. It definitely adds to the challenge of maintaining them in a tank but also makes them more interesting to observe.
