Hey huys, im planning a 50 gallon project and of course in it im planning on getting a bubble anemone and a maroon clown fish. My question is, can I house more than 1 anemone of the same species in my 50 gallon. I know that anemone will attack each other and do the toxic warfare. Is that against all other anemone or just other species. The reason im asking is i also want to keep a porcelain crab and anemone shrinp and do believe the crab also like to host with an anemone.

I have about 25 BTA's , rose, rainbow, blackwidow, green. they are all touching each other. They only have toxic warfare with corals. Wait about 6 months till your system is stable enough to keep BTA's

Yep! I had two rose bubble tip nems (Originally 1 but it split up) that lived right next to each other. No problems at all.

Thanks so much lol i really like anemone and wanted a couple in my tank. Since i want a maroon clown and i know you shouldnt keep any other clowns if you keep a maroon i was thinking of putting a porcelain anemone crab in as well for like another hopeful host example in the tank. Ill do a build thread as soon as i get a tank and equipment. Right now im just researching all my ideas to make sure everything is good.

BTW, I do not think the chemical warefare thing has been proven. I have 15 anemones in my 65gallon tank (6 BTAs, 1 magnifica, 3 hadonni carpets, 3 gigantea carpets, mini/maxi, 1 LTA).

you'll be fine. Also, the sexy shrimps like to be in groups.

By just acquiring one, in time they will split and you’ll have several

Ok so just buy one and properly care for it and it will split eventually creating more. So buying multiple for 30-55 gallons is just moot if you do your job correctly

They spread like weeds and in a few years your one becomes 30.

I would only caution against buying a wild one and introducing to a captive breed BTA. The caution is that it could potentially introduce bacteria to each other. But lots of people have had success mixing them.

So iv been looking at a 30 gallon as my first start over a 55 or larger. While i was looking i found a 29? Gallon. So i was thinking of going that route. It would be just the tank so i would love some suggestions on : lighting, filtration, for a tank this size.

Yes, and they will grow and split, and eventually take over the tank if you let them.

I’d suggest a 40 breeder over the 29(or the 55 if your looking at like petco tanks) the 29/55 are much narrower that the 40 breeder. When I was first starting out I almost went with the 55, but decided I liked the dimensions of the 40 breeder better, the extra width was very helpful when planning my rockscape. It looks significantly deeper than I feel like I could have made a 55 look with large rocks.
