Hello

I am about to start a new tank, Aqua Medic Armatus 300 66 gallons (currently running a Red Sea Max 130D LPS/SPS for 10 years, AIO).
The sump is designed for filter socks but for limited maintenance, I will use a roller mat filter.
I need to modify the sump. As it is my first sump, I would like some advises please

There are 3 chambers (1, 2, 3 on the pictures).
Chamber 1 is the overflow spillover where the drain pipe end up.
There are 3 glass partitions (a,b, c on the pictures).
The roller mat is design to receive the drain pipe from the overflow (enclosed picture from the manual).

Removing glass partition A is enough to get room for the roller filter.
Questions are:
- No water level issue this way if a get rid of the spill over chamber?
- Should I keep glass partitions B and C?
- What to use chamber 3 for? Macro algae reactor ?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Tugdu77,

I also would like to purchase the Aqua Medic Armatus 300 and I would also like to use a roller mat filter. How did you set your sump up in the end? And are you happy with the tank? Sharing of your experience would be greatly appreciated :)!

Best,
Sebastian

Hello

Perfect fit with Aqua Medic Ocean Clear.
I used the Red Sea roller mat conversion kit, special tools kit to remove the first partition and lower the last one. I added on top of the last partition a PVC comb for the water exit of the refugium (not on the pictures).

Thank you, that is extremely helpful :) and a job well done! I have just ordered the tank and will probably do something similar. Does the additional tubing you installed (e.g., the one leading to the roller mat filter) make it more difficult to tune in the downflow valve or is it still silent like this? And are you happy with the Aqua Medic Ocean Clear?

Well done. What type of drain did you use to connect the roller mat? And how is the connection to the roller? En français si tu préfères.

@lucabrasi
No additional tubing, I am using the silicone one supplied with the aquarium. Downflow is dead silent. No issue with the tuning, just need to be patient, be careful to chose a powerfull return pump (for me Jebao MDP-5000 tuned at 32%, 11W). Ocean Clear working great, a bit oversized meaning lower maintenance, cheap rolls.

@Remi
Original downpipe made of silicone tubing going straight into the roller integrated compartiment. MP si besoin
