Just from the preliminary numbers. This light isn’t worth the money from my end. Compared to the reefi uno or meridian, I don’t think I’d be gaining anything.

Is there a thread of site, where the lights are ranked?

I’ve never heard of half of these and am interested in eventually getting another larger tank.

Has there been an R2R poll that ranks the lights.

Which are the high end options and which ones are the budget friendly options?

Just curious if anyone knows. Google and searching in here don’t help me much.
I also searched r2r and the web and could not find anything.

I would also like to see a side by side comparison.
-Pros/cons.
-Per par pricing.
-Costumer service/support.
-Control/programing.
-Material/electrical components quality.

Would be nice

We could first start with a of list fixtures. Create a spreadsheet.

Just facts, no opinions.

It has 395nm diodes. Does that count as UV or no? If not, is it because it’s AI?
No, it’s because they lied about it previously.
Not only lied by labeling a 405nm LED as UV, but also by advertising a fabricated spectrum for the blades, implicating it does have real UVA when it doesn’t, and when it was pointed out to them they had to remove it.

Hope this time around it’s alright.

As already noted by @Sisterlimonpot it is too difficult as most people find it difficult to remove the bias filter. The things you note here are paper benchmarks. Numbers. They do not mean a lot in the grand scheme of things other than to say look at me.

There is a reason for the paper and air benchmarks which is because it is easy to do. Setting up a series of systems using a similar size and weight frag from the same colony sharing water and chemistry with similar sized fish and record over time both weight and growth of corals is a herculean effort. 1, 3, 6, 12, 18 months later of data logging - not something a social media influencer is going to sign up for not to even bring up the skill set and discipline required...

There is more to success than just the light and spectrum.

Does this have a 395 nm diode? The spectrum picture is too vague.
allegedly.

i do like the look of the light. ever since the grow/glow i enjoy the slim look of it and is less of an eye sore above the tank compared to a hydra with a diffuser.

Of course benchmark testing data. Thats a must for sure. But we have to start with a list lol. And its not a 100% science. Theres always factors to consider.

I want to know about the product specs in testing. Not how people use it, that will always vary.

Facts not emotions.

Ironically, the BRStv lighting videos used to be good for that. The last series Ryan did was really pretty good. They tested about 60 lights I think.

Sadly, we'll never see testing like that again. :(

There are two problems in my opinion.

  1. There are no standards. Without them it is left to the person doing the testing to interpret how they see fit. Enter bias.
  2. BRS promoted their "BRS Recommended" light settings which can have an impact on test results. No standards, bias or personal preference, unintentionally or not one product gets promoted over another. Case in point Philips Coral Care Gen 2.

For the PAR tests, they always did all channels at 100%. That's as standard a "benchmark" as you'll ever see.

Always a 24x24x24 cube or 24x48x24 tank with water and no flow.

The shadowing tests were just presented for you to see for yourself.

Yes, they did recommended settings for height, spacing and spectrum. Height and spacing were INVALUABLE info that NOBODY else provides. They used the same standards to find optimal height and spacing for each light.

The spectrum you could take or leave, but that wasn't part of the "benchmarking".

If there was, it wouldn't offer any insight as what would be the best to the worst. It would simply be skewed towards popularity and companies ability to successfully use shills to market their products.

If there was such a thread, I wouldn't put much stock into it.
Agreed. You can ask 5 people and get 6 opinions about which lights they think are best. It's who has had good or bad experiences with them and who had heard what rumor about what light.

The problem is that they're too expensive to buy them to try on. I learned the hard way that Orphek doesn't take returns. I LOVE my Orphek bars ($180/ea) (which I would tell you in that ranking). I'm UNimpressed by the Natura that I won ($800)... So I'm not even completely in one camp or another.

I have AI, Kessil, Viparspectras, PopnBloom and Orpheks on my tanks. They're all good and bad. (Cept PopnBloom... Just bad)
