Hello,

I have some fish in QT / holding system. These fish have been prophylactically for Ich, Velvet, Brooklynella, Flukes, and Uronema. The Atlantic Blue Tangs come in looking like this and I figured it was stress. It's been about 3 weeks and they still have this color.

Parameters seem fine. Salinity 1.023, ph 8.0, ammonia 0, nitrate 28, phosphate .7 (bit high).

I dont see aggression but rather a crowded tank and i stopped back in the day selling these fish as they are prone to bacterial issues and You can try Ruby Rally Pro to see if they respond to treatment which is tank safe however best and most effective would be treatment separately with use of Seachem neoplex and a focus on water quality which may be a factor along with stress from so much activity.

Pulled one that's almost dead laying on the bottom. It's a 240 gallon with a 100 gallon sump. Water quality is good. It's been fully cycled and had another larger batch of fish before this without any issues. Lots of biomedia (matrix, etc...) There are a bunch of tangs, so there is a bit of nipping but nothing out of the ordinary. The other fish all look good. It's just the Atlantic blues. I'm leaning towards some kind of infection.

I have two more. This one doesn't look too bad. A little bit of paleness.

This one looks the worst. Behavior is more shy. Less aggressive eating. Breathing is fine.

Tails show signs of bullying but these also are not stable fish often from the carribean and are thin when shipped
If you get a healthy one, they get to an easy 8”

Thanks. Yeah, I didn't realize how tough they are to get healthy and acclimated. Thinking to treat with neoplex and see how it goes. Any advice for adding neoplex? Should I ramp up the dose?

Never ramp meds but dilute and add to sump. If no sump- water column

What treatment(s) have you applied so far?

I see a lot of signs of aggression - you'll likely have to separate some of these fish, either with new tanks or tank dividers.

Thanks. They’ve been through copper, formalin, prazi and maybe something else before I got them.

Currently started neoplex for what I’m assuming is a bacterial infection.

There had been some aggression when I first put them together but nothing constant and nothing significant now. There is a little flashing but no nipping or contact. The only fish that have an observable issue are the Atlantic blues. All the other fish have fattened up. No other signs of stress and no signs of new fin nipping, etc.

Do you agree this looks bacterial and would benefit from neoplex or do you think this is just stress from aggression? Something else?

Visually, the ID of the cause of this isn’t really possible. It could be simple skin damage from the aggression, or it could be skin damage followed by a secondary bacterial infection.
So - if you can set up a Neoplex treatment, that would be the safest option.

I ended up pulling out the neoplex with carbon and ran prazipro instead. Fish are looking way better. Color coming back to the Atlantic blues.

haha, no. I am stocking a 1000 gallon. I like larger groups of fish vs individuals. The behavior is different too when you have a large group of the same species. This is another 1000 gallon display.
