My current reef is 48x18x18 and this new tank in the thread is 48x20x20. Virtually the same. I use the photon 48 on my current tank. I don’t have to go over 45% on any channel…check my tank thread link, go to the last page for most current pics (I keep it up to date) and work backwards a few pages. You’ll see we what this light can do…

This light can grow acros on the sand if you wanted. Easily.

Whoah. You are the guy with the rainbow plate coral I saw in a different thread haha.

Man epic tank!

And I thought my tank was nice hahaha.

Sick shots man. Totally breathtaking.

What is the coral north east of those palys? Torch or galaxea?

That mounting bracket you have the photon on is that stock?

And are you punching through a glass top?

I have a few palys colonies. North east? Of which one? Can you post the pic of the coral you’re asking about?

Stock, included with the photon. They also include a hanging kit

And are you punching through a glass top?
Polycarb. I got a lid guy that makes inexpensive custom lids. he made the lid on my current 75g tank, and he can make custom lids for this 83g tank. He made one for jojo’s 83g tank also.

I have a par meter, the lid has a negligible effect, it’s around 10 par, just raise the led channels up a couple percent and boom - it’s like no lid is there lol

It’s this one that’s clear.

Back right corner you have the palys I was referring to. Northwest of them is what appears to be either torches or galaxea? Not quite sure.

Do you frag those plate corals? :upside-down-face:

I have long wanted one of the plate corals with long tentacles and a carpet anenome but never felt like I could keep them alive. I read your post about how you viewed them being a relatively easy coral to maintain so I am interested. I stop by my lfs weekly to ask if they have any to no avail.

What do the lids typically run for those polycarbonate? I am in need of one for sure once I figure out lighting etc.

Thank in advance

Ah, it’s a cotton candy torch colony, probably 6-8 heads

I don’t know how, apparently they can do it themselves. If I can get another, either fragging or from The parent colony,I can reach out to see if you’re interested

It was roughly 120 for two panels for my 75g framed tank. I believe its around 140 for this 83g rimless

Much better than going the kraken lid route. Not trying to knock them but man are they pricey.

This build is a very rushed project so I don’t have a ton of time or money as my current tank is leaking albeit very very slowly.

Now I’m just trying to figure out how to move this thing inside my home by myself

Mine was $120 + sales tax, and then I added a $15 modification (cable corner flaps). Includes cutout for an Avast Plank and one front door flap on each panel.

Oh that’s nice!

Who’s the lid maker? What’s the time frame like?

My tank is expected to be here in 2 weeks roughly so I’m scrambling

Looking for a used photon v2 48”, a cheap skimmer at some point less of a rush, and someone to help me move it up 1 flights of stairs when it ultimately comes

Looking at about a month time frame. Pretty standard with lid makers nowadays it seems.

messaged all those selling 48” v2 photons and no dice

Didn’t realize the lights were discontinued and I’d prefer new anyway.

Any idea of if and where the lights can be bought new?

I see reefbreeders are coming out with the new photon meridian lights but they are 50% more expensive also on back order so not exactly an option.

Due to the optics and some enhancements they claim you don’t need to use the same size fixture as the photon

They say the meridian 32 is equal coverage as a photon 48

These guys still have the photon 48 If you went to buy new, it would come with full warranty

In the $800s new, you could also consider the Orphek Icon Atlantik. I just got an Atlantik V4 for $300 and checked it. Works perfectly over our tank. I'll get PAR measurements soon enough, but doubtful that it will be lacking.

I saw the comment in the marketplace.

Never heard of that light.

Have you used this light before?

I sorta like the seamless one unit light over the tank. Reminds me of my freshwater tanks. Sleek and simple.

Just picked up a vbr pad meter off Amazon and it’s basically identical to the 500$ one that I rent from my lfs (forget the name)

This is my first Orphek, bit it is one of the higher end LED companies, so hoping it plays out well. The units are upgradable between versions woth theor new chip sets. I have the Icon system upgrade, but I might fork over the $200some for the upgraded chipset.
