what skimmer would you chose for a 125 gallon tank FO plus 40 gallon sump and why?

The only reason we use them is to slow down on water changes. They are both good skimmers but my preference would be octopus.

I won't buy another Reef Octopus. Been a couple of years but I heard they were bought out...then I had this issue which was never resolved. Eventually just glued the pieces together...the last time I looked...the build video still shows the incorrect piece.

EDIT: No matter what brand you choose...I would get one with a DC pump. A gate valve to help control the output would be helpful as well.

The Reef Octo Elite 150 is the best for me because the DC pump can be controlled with the Hydros controller. It skims great too.

reef octupus is really good. I know people had issues with red sea, with overflowing and to dial in. eshops mot sure. I have a maxspect duo skimmer in mine. Its a beast.

Ive had Reef Octops and Red Sea and I LOVED the Red Sea, im so bummed it doesnt fit my new tank and sump. That thing started skimming the second I turned it on and ran like a champ and was super quiet.

Got a reef octo classic 150 and it does a great job on my wb 100.3. Check out open box specials too. Always seems to be a few good ones in there.

You'll never hear my octo elite 150. I constantly check to make sure its on. It is. And the 150 is a decent size that fits in a lot of sump setups. I have the 750 xxl and the standard sump. No issues at all with in fitting in the sump. Great footprint. The controller is also 1-10v controllable. I love the level sensor as well. Avoids messy spills.
