Why do the micro crystals only work for a 24 hour time period?I would like to see if anyone tried to add the whole container of alk to the tank at once... like once a month dosing kind of bolus method.

Those of us using it have already applied for asylum to a so far unnamed website.
Thats funny that you say that. I was asked to watch the recent reef bum video with that guy from the UK and then provide my thoughts. The video was hilarious. He was yapping about a bunch of nothing.
Unfortunately , this information doesn't seem to be circulating in the hobby. I have heard this discussed by many youtubers ( with large audiences) and social media groups, and it is almost always misrepresented. I keep seeing advice to mix sodium bicarb with sodium carbonate to achieve the "natural balance" of seawater or something akin to that.Dosing bicarbonate, carbonate, and hydroxide lead to the same bicarbonate and carbonate formation. The percentage of bicarbonate and carbonate will depend on pH.
I think if he had a leg to stand on, he would jump at the invitation. I'm quite certain they know what game they're playing.I told him to come chat with us on R2R and prove Randy wrong. He went radio silent after that invitation. Talks a big game but sure can't walk one
It just goes to show how a thread chock full of science backed data doesn't seem to have the clout it once did. While the alternative of speaking above the knowledge level of most viewers to maintain a level of mystique, sprinkling in a few selective facts to make it seem legit is all that's required these days.Unfortunately , this information doesn't seem to be circulating in the hobby. I'm just gonna go out on a limb and say that will never happen. Anyone who tries to call out critics with "their textbooks and theories" doesn't want to debate an actual scientist.Perhaps if we were to get Randy and Doug on a popular podcast, perhaps, people will sit up and take notice.
And honestly the more I think about it, the more I realize the marketing genius of it all. Sponsoring popular podcasts and injecting a born salesman like Doug into them. Pushing for a subscription based service of personalized ICP analysis. "Send us your water monthly and we'll tell you exactly what to do." Not to mention the Bolus marketing strategy itself. It sure has people talking. It's impressive and upsetting at the same time. While the alternative of speaking above the knowledge level of most viewers to maintain a level of mystique, sprinkling in a few selective facts to make it seem legit is all that's required these days.
I dunno (and no offense to Randy or Craig), have you listened to Craig Bingham? Ha I have sometimes thought that someone should sneak him a Jolt Cola or triple espresso beforehand. Again, no disrespect meant here. Just hard to compete with boisterous YouTube personalities with Bueller….Bueller….BuellerI think if he had a leg to stand on, he would jump at the invitation. BTW, I wasted my entire day reading this thread. Randy, I've found a new respect for the way you handle goading.
I love listening to Craig. Dry humor and easy to understand. But yes, he doesn't shout buzzwords and sales pitches at you, so he doesn't get the youtube notoriety.I dunno (and no offense to Randy or Craig), have you listened to Craig Bingham? Edit.. I should add that most of us wanting to hear the science would eat it up. It’s just the average, typical type that gets their reefing info from YouTube might not. I’d sure listen to it though!
I don't know if I ever heard Randy speak. I have heard Craig speak on many occasions. You're right that he has that slow monotonous drawl, however, I never found that annoying. I always thought that his pauses are his process to search for the best word or phrase to convey his thoughts, in my mind is appreciated. With that said, I think that 90% of viewers, when presented both sides would be able to ascertain who is blowing smoke.I dunno (and no offense to Randy or Craig), have you listened to Craig Bingham? I’m just shocked this thread is so long, and for what? Alkalinity dosing forms?

I just think the claims are a little far-fetched.Why are you shocked? It is a small sample size of the hobby but it does go to show you how divisive some subjects are.
Nostalgia is a strange thing, don't you think? Everything was always better way back when. There's a term for remembering the good parts of the past and ignoring the drawbacks but I'll be danged if I can remember what it is.I just think the claims are a little far-fetched.
