Breeding Feeder fish for Predator tank?

Hey All,

Im looking into some easy to breed fish to feed to my Predator Tank. I was thinking about breeding Freshwater Molly's and converting them to salt. Then when I'm on Vacation, I can add a handful that will be eaten over the period of a week. I dont plan on this being the only source of food during normal feedings, but i would use them occasionally.

Anyone have any thoughts?

This can be a challenge because the predator fish eat fish a lot faster than fish can breed. Additionally, store bought feeder fish can potentially come with diseases that you wont want to introduce to your tank. One solution is to use wild caught fish, but I'm assuming that there is a limited supply of wild caught saltwater fish in Indiana!

What predators do you have? That will also help dictate if thats necessary as lots of predators eat on a fast/gorge cycle

As of right now I only have a Puffer Fish. I have a small shark coming in two weeks and I plan on adding a Blue spot ray soon after that. I will add a snowflake eel and a few large Angels in the coming months.

I dont expect to fully feed the tank off of these fish. My kids are starting 4H and one of the projects is fish breeding. So I thought we could breed Mollys (and someday Clownfish) and then use the Mollys as a treat for the tank and also when we go on vacation. If I add 30 Mollys at one time, 80% will hide in the rock and give the Predators something to eat while I'm gone on vacation.

It may be a hairbrained idea, that's why i wanted to see if anyone else has done anything similar.

Okay none of those fish would either eat the mollies or get any sort of nutrition from them to be completely honest. Puffers dont eat other fish, they are probably way too small for a shark to bother eating them, snowflakes dont really eat fish either they are pebbletooth eels so their main food are inverts, too small for a ray to bother eating them and angels dont eat fish at all. So to be honest I think its not even worth attempting in my opinion
