I'm not sure of the issue. This stuff is brown and forms quickly, pretty much a nuisance as nutrients are very stable and the bio filter is solid.
Tank was cycled well for 3 months before livestock. We have added livestock very slowly so far, 1 foxface first week, paddlefin wrasse and scopas tang second week, pair of oscellaris clowns and a blue tang third week (nothing the last 3 weeks giving the blue tang time to acclimate, but ready to add a couple more this weekend). We're planning a mixed reef tanks with mostly soft corals and zoas, going for color and waving in the flow and we don't plan to add coral until we have the fish stocked. Slow and steady wins the race.
The brown stuff appears to form on the sand and glass very quickly. First saw it 2 weeks ago, brushed it off the glass, vacuumed the sand and did a small 20% water change. It took about 3 days to come back. Going to do the same again today. It seems like the lighting could be playing a part? It doesn't appear to be forming under the lip of the top frame where it is shaded from the light.
I suppose this could just be ugly stage, but any ideas would help.
