I had dinos take over a 4mo tank after reducing nutrient input and adding more cuc to combat green hair algae. Once the cuc cleared up the algae and nutrients bottomed out the dinos took over. I fed heavy for almost a month with no change. Full of pods and manual removal did nothing. Finally I did a 3 day blackout by throwing a thick blanket over the tank and that took care of it. Few dinos left after that but within a few days they were gone and a few weeks later biodiversity was restored.

Well, in my case no, because they were damaging other things.... but my outbreak was after already having quite a few things in the tank, and somehow due to a tank migration I bottomed out N&P.

Maybe during cycling and the uglies phases, yes... Though BRStv did quite a few tests on this, can probably get a better answer there.
