I am considering adding the BRS Water Saver upgrade to my Spectrapure 90gpd system to save water. I currently have an AquaticLife Smart Buddie booster pump. This booster pump auto flushes my membrane but I am unsure if I add the Water Saver if it will also flush the second membrane? Any RODI experts know if the second membrane would still get flushed even though it is fed by the waste from the first membrane?

@Bulk Reef Supply can you guys give any advice on this?

To the OP, if they don't answer here (sometimes they don't see all the posts their tagged in), then I'd suggest reaching out to their CS team to get an answer.

I discussed this with AquaticLife last week. If you use 2 membranes, it is best to upgrade the booster pump as well. The regular Smart Buddie Booster pump is good for systems up to 100 GPD, but there is a larger pump for systems up to 150 GPD.

I have used the small booster pump on larger systems. However, the flow restrictor and preprogrammed pressure shut-off limits are not calibrated for systems this size, so using the regular booster pump with 2 membranes can cause the pump to wear out and fail prematurely. You can find the larger pump in the link below.

If your feedwater is hard, it's not a good idea to plumb two membranes in series with an overly restrictive flow restrictor.

If you do want to get a booster pump, you're better off doing that with a booster pump kit where you can easily get to, modify, fix, replace the individual components when needed. That booster you mentioned takes all those components and seals them inside a plastic box.

If you do plumb two membranes in series (concentrate from the first membrane feeding the second membrane), then you'll use only a single flow restrictor and our auto flush valve can be used.

Thanks for the info. My tap TDS is about 150 thanks to the snow melt that fills our reservoirs here. I may eventually add a second membrane but I will have to change out to a better booster pump. I got this one for a deal local so it made sense. Water prices have been jumping here with all the demand in the Denver area.

Hi I just got the 150gpd smart buddie. Trying to connect it to the BRS 5 stage water saver with 2 membranes. Is it better to connect in parallel like the manual or series like It comes ?

I have the spectapure 90 gal RO. I bought a booster pump, but haven't set it up yet. I'm confused on plumbing it to the RO unit. Can you snap a pic showing how the Smart Buddy and RO are connected on ypur setup?

Been running my 150gpd BRS 7 stage on the Smart Buddie booster for more than a year. I don’t produce much RO these days though so not sure if I’ll ever see any premature failure.
