I currently have a tank with only an eel in it. I understand that eels can carry ich/velvet. However, if he is the only inhabitant for the next 45-60 days (fallow period) can I rest assured that the ich/velvet will have died off or can these illnesses fulfill their life cycles on the eel? I did a search and found mixed answers. Hopefully someone can clarify. Thank you.

The 45-60 day period pertains to having No livestock in the tank in which parasites will die off without a host to feed on. Also, there is no assurance that a given specimen will not ne prone to any issues

I understand what you are saying. Let me try to ask the question a different way. My understanding is that these two parasites will die off after an X number of days if they don’t have an appropriate host to replicate on. Therefore, what I’m trying to ask is whether an eel is an appropriate host for the two parasites to replicate on?
