I've had this citron clown goby in one of my systems for roughly 4 months, and I didn't think much of it because as of today he is active, social, is breathing fine, and "appears" healthy? Ever since I bought it, every feeding he rushes to eat as excited as the other fish, however in contrast, he only takes a couple of small pieces before showing no interest in food until the next day, which over time has concerned me since my tiny 1 inch neon goby is eating four times as much as my 3 inch clown goby. So I decided to compare his appearance with others on google, and I think mine is looking sort of translucent and pale, but the belly is not at all sunken in as I would expect a starving fish to have. I just want to make sure he is okay, and all is appreciated. :)

This fish is awfully thin and as many have shown up like this, I suspect edema in which the fish is now feeding off its liver until it cant any longer, Its unfortunate. It should be relishing pods and brine shrimp and if both are present and fish not looking at them, this may be the case

I will look into it. Thanks for the reply.

Edit: I can't seem to find anything that matches with my situation. Edema, velvet, and ich seemed to go under the "pale and no eating" category, but all involve white cysts, and kill quickily, whereas my case has been ongoing for months, and the fish does not act stressed in any way only that it looks scary pale. Should I do a freshwater dip before anything else?

FW dip will impose added stress and even result in added weakness. This dip often temporary relief for flukes to buy time. Fish is thin and in essence wasting away which is not velvet or ich in which with those, fish would be breathing heavy, covered in dots or dust, gasping at surface, scratching, etc

I feed Hikari frozen mysis shrimp once a day.
Once a day for this little fish is not often enough, and need more variety in the food offering. Mysis alone and nothing else is not very nutritional, add some micro pellets and reef frenzy to the diet.

Don't let them grow up lol, you keep feeding them to your fish. I make a batch that is good for 2-3 days, and I feed all within that time.
And keep in mind, ,this is more of a snack. In the long run, they are very tiny and not nutritional, they are like a snack for the fish, but the fish can't live off just baby brine alone.

Does this mean i have to keep replenishing? I worry this may be costly in the long term:confused:
Oh no, a small package of eggs cost about $6-$7, and it lasts me a year. A little pinch will hatch thousands. Its basically free food except for the cost of the eggs.

How long does it take for them to grow up? I don't have any large fish that could eat fully grown ones, but I have considered freezing them if they grow up before I can use them all.

Sorry, I don't know. There is info online for people that are interested to raise them to adulthood, that never interested me.

by the way, this is my DIY set up, just an inverted plastic coke bottle with the bottom cut off. All you need is an airline to move the water, and you will need a brine shrimp net. I got this one from amazon for just a few dollars. Add water at 1.020, add eggs, and wait 2 days. Very easy, and its fun to watch the fish go for the shrimp. Good luck
