Hey, this CBB is a few weeks old. He did not have this issue with his eye at the fish store so assumed he picked it up moving or from new tank mates (saying hello!).
It’s started off a little cloudy, I understand the potential for flukes but as it progressed quickly I assumed injury. Have been treating with melafix and primafix to reduce or prevent secondary infection (day 3 of 7 days) but when I can home today the eye looks terrible.
Behaviour is largely normal, tho may be being displaced by a strawberry fish. Eating like a champ - even today.
Params stable and unremarkable and all other tank mates are fine

Any help greatly appreciated

Melafix and Pimafix are regarded as tonics comprised of tea tree oil and rendered useless with marine fih issues. I suspect its an eye injury and may have occured from fish netted or bumping into object.
Best remedy is maracyn as pictured below although im reluctant to mix it with copper.
Are you using coppersafe or cupramine?

Thanks. When you say mix with copper, what do you mean? Should be no copper in the system.
I’d read good reviews of the combo I used to treat cloudy eye, but happy to give this a go (assuming I can get it in the uk).
His eye is so dark now it almost looks like it’s not there… Hope I’m wrong

The copper comment was because your title says copper and eye issue. I get that you were getting at "copperband butterfly fish and eye problem" but copper being a common treatment for new fish, it might help to spell out copperband to avoid confusion :)

Thanks. Here’s hoping

It's just the left eye, correct? That is most likely from an injury, but your later pictures show that there is severe damage, it looks like what is termed a partial enucleation, where the eye orbit has been permanently damaged. Fish can survive with just one eye, but secondary bacterial infection is likely. I would second the choice of Maracyn 1 (Erythromycin) in a treatment tank. However, the fish is also very thin, so that is going to be a problem with long term survival.....

Thanks Jay. He’s taken to not eating today. Hopefully temporary but not looking good :(
It’s tough being in the uk and needing medicine quickly, it’s a pain distributors don’t make the effort
