Thank you @Hanna Instruments for confirming, and HUGE THANKS to @HotRocks for making this extremely significant discovery. It cannot be overstated how valuable it is that we now have a reliable, accurate test kit for using copper. And it's thanks to @HotRocks initial experimentation. He got the ball rolling with this.

Not only will this discovery make it easier for our members to quarantine, but countless fish lives will probably be saved due to no longer overdosing copper. WELL DONE, MY FRIEND!!! :)

Well done @Hanna Instruments ! I'm thrilled you were able to make this happen as quickly as you did!

And I also agree, thank you @HotRocks !!!!
Wow that’s great and exciting news! This is literally a game changer for this hobby. Without exaggeration, this will save hundreds if not thousands of marine fish this year alone (based on the immense reach of the R2R community and early adoption this has allowed) and will bring even more people to the world of responsible quarantine as it adds to the simplicity and reliability of doing so effectively/gently.

@HotRocks I know you personally buddy but that’s good work and all of us at R2R are thankful for your hard-work and pioneering/orchestration of this project. Without you, we wouldn’t have any idea that such an easy method of administering and checking copper levels existed. We probably wouldn’t have known about CopperSafe’s QC issues/ potency inconsistencies of not for your research and time. Thanks you.

@Hanna Instruments your quick responses, and handling of the immense increase of demand is nothing short of fantastic. You’ve adapted phenomenally and as a community and as a hobbyist involved heavily in fish disease, THANK YOU.

May this product be fruitful for you, as it’s definitely a mutual benefit. God bless and happy reefing!

So my first test shows 2.0 on the money for Cuprion. Unfortunately I think that may be a bad thing. I have an absorbsion rate of about 3-4 drops of solution per day which I normally dose every morning. This was after adding 2 drops this morning. Now I’m wondering if I should start the 30 days over. Currently next week was going to be my last week w/copper.

Thoughts? Can a powder blue tang make it 60 days in copper ( 30@ near therapeutic and 30@ therapeutic or am I going to end up killing it from overexposure? @Brew12, @4FordFamily, @Humblefish

Do you mean .20ppm?

.15 I believe is minimum therapeutic Cu level with cuprion.

Do you think you have dropped below .15ppm at anytime?

Correct .20ppm I do not believe I have ever dropped below .15ppm as my target is always well into the color between .25 and .50 on the Salifert test.

If I were you I would just finish up however many days you have left to get the initial 30 day mark, since you have stayed above the minimum. Remove copper. Then observe for at least 14 days to see how it goes. If for some reason you didn't erradicate parasites you could then go for another 30 days. I know it may leave them in QT a little longer, but IMO it's safer than running them an additional 30 days.

I always observe an additional 2-3 weeks after all treatments have been discontinued anyway. I’m in no hurry these days

Outstanding news, @Hanna Instruments! Thank you for doing the testing on these!

I got my checker today (Yay!) Checked the water in my QT that I had dosed with Cupramine. I'd been following with the Seachem test and estimated the level at 0.4; turns out it's 0.3 (Better too low than too high, but it means I haven't been therapeutic the last 4 days like I thought I was)

Given the accuracy and ease of use, I can't see using any other copper test. like my pics (and the experience of everyone who's tried using them) illustrate, accurately measuring shades of blue is extremely difficult and imprecise at best.

One question for the people who have the Hanna Checker - the instructions say to fill the vial, zero/calibrate, add the reagent and 'shake gently for 15 seconds' then add the vial and wait for 45 seconds to read. Do you still have undissolved reagent? My reagent formed a clump at the bottom of the cuvette when I emptied the packet and I had to agitate the cuvette for at least 30 seconds to get it almost completely dissolved.

Some of my regents have left residue I shake until it’s dissolved. For the most part 30 seconds takes care of business, IME.

I would agree, 50% of the time 15 seconds works if shaken vigorously. 30 usually always does the trick.

Mine was delivered today. Cupramine was at .27 so upped the dose a bit and will continue to check until I get .5 and then start my 30 days.

It is such a great feeling. Takes all the guesswork out for sure!

When I think about it, it's exactly the same reason the Hanna Checker is preferred for phosphate. Comparing a vial with a test card showing various shades of blue is very difficult and prone to error. While it has a few quirks, the Hanna checker procedure makes it much easier to get accurate results, something that is critical when dosing copper.

Absolutely love this thing! Been testing daily for about a week. I know exactly what I have and by writing down my absorption rate I know exactly what I need to add daily. So glad I found this thread!!
