I forgot to ask this. What type of toadstool is this? Saw this beauty during my trip to sea life at the mall of America (1). This is another I’m debating buying from someone in my local club. He said it’s a little stressed right now (2).

Seems like no one really knows. Just sent an email to Sea Life to see what they say. Hoping to get a knowledgeable response, but who knows if I will.

Yeah haven’t seen hardly any like it. Most of them have fingers in their polyps and this one doesnt

Not sure how specific you looking to get but those are sarcophyton leathers. There are many varieties of sarcophyton, but i believe most in the hobby are sarcophyton glaucum. The ones with fingers you mention sounds like you are talking about lobophytum.

Yep, just an average toadstool leather coral. Sarcophyton sp.

There are so many different variations of toadstool mushroom leather’s collected from everywhere. A lot of different species out there so they are sometimes difficult to identify. Some have long polyps and others short. I’ve always been a long polyp fan myself. When they get older they tend to fold up more and they typically come in different shades of green, tan, or brown.

I think the answer you’re really seeking is what you personally like about that particular one above.? I’m pretty sure it has something to do with either color or polyp length. However, color can be deceiving depending on what lights they’re under.

So watching this video below and also thinking about the color and polyp length/ extension you prefer will send you in the right direction for your first toadstool leather coral. :)

Never used that hashtag before, so don’t know if this is appropriate, but I know the experts have helped a lot of people through it, so might as well.
As already said it looks like a toadstool leather coral. Sarcophyton sp

I have a few of them, pink, yellow and a greenish one
