Every lfs i have been to so far, I can visibly see tons of pests, bubble algae & aiptasia. Who knows what is coming in on them! What are you treating new frags with? I am looking to get my process down, but I have no clue what to look for infection wise, nor do I have a frag QT tank. Being a newbie, looking for a process that handles most situations up front. I am thinking a general dip for pests, an iodine dip, & peroxide if there is visible algae? Is that too much?
Which of these do you prefer as a general pests?
Koral MD Pro, Potassium Chloride, or fresh water?

Happy & Healthy Reefing!!

Until I had my separate frag tank, I'd just do coral rx and put it in a frag rack for a few days and then glue in place. Cuc takes care of any new algae introduced.

An LFS shop with “tons of pest” stuff I would not purchase from.

The risk is too high.

A good shop knows how to keep that stuff out.
Yeah, i try to. But also when buying online you have no idea what the tanks look like either. Just looking for the general accepted procedure I suppose.

True you can not see a online vendors tanks but find some vendors you like read feedback on them and stick with them. That will help take some of the stress out of it. Theres some awesome online vendors out there 99 percent of the corals in my tank are bought online. Obviously I like Battle corals but if your into softie's or LPS Top Shelf Aquatics is great to.

Snip off the plugs and dip in professor polyps. (what I do)
That dude is semi local (3 hour drive) to me, spent an afternoon chatting with him and he talked me into getting a big jug. I use that for non sps additions too, works great on both bugs and algae. Harsh though and you have to watch how long they are dipped close.

Potassium chloride is an effective dip that is fairly gentle. Couple good threads here on how to use it. You can get a huge bag that should last 50 years used as a dip.
I've been dipping in potassium chloride too. Curious if its doing the same job as koral md + For general pests? Was wondering if adding an iodine dip was also popular

For injured corals and bacterial stuff, iodine is great. Im not sure if it helps with other 'pests' though.
I used to use koral md, i think potassium chloride does every bit as good. And it doesnt expire. That was my biggest problem, stuff expiring befpre i used it all and having to toss it.

You can always adjust the ratio or the time. I actually forgot a plug of grandis zoas for 5 hours... no harm, no foul. Was normal the next day.

That makes sense. I like the potassium chloride as well, everyone says it's gentle on coral too.

Dang! I usually just dip full strength for 1 minute. It's done wonders on some algae covered frags. Nuked bristle worms in about 20 seconds too. Palys being able to close up probably helped them pull through, pretty amazing they did!

Keep in mind dips don't kill bubble algae, flatworm eggs, and aiptasia. If you really want to avoid those, you need a coral qt.
Good to know! I feel like i would need to work my way into a qt. I am a newbie with a nano lol. Just trying to give my nano as good a chance at success as possible.
