Do clowns lose their bond?

I have two designer percula clowns in my tank that’s been running for two years. For the first year and half they were inseparable they even laid eggs one time. However when my female clown was hosted by my bta she wouldn’t share the bta and ever since my male clown hangs out in the corner by my over flow. They don’t fight but they basically ignore each other. Is it safe to say they are no longer bonded. My one bta has turned into 8 so there is plenty of room for both of them now.

Havind started with 14 clowns and adding a few along the way, yes, I have seen this more than once. Even they experience divorce

I have two females that have killed their male partners. The bond can definitely be lost.

Agreed. I bought a pair of bonded fancy ones only to have them separately a few weeks after being introduced to a 180g. My theory is they may stick together more in a smaller space, but in a larger system with more to do or more clownfish activity it may not work. As I typed that, it made think of a human analogy of a high school sweethearts growing up together in a small town. Inseparable until they move to a big city with more space and people to explore that test that bond. lol.

My pair spit up and joined different group and now living in opposite sides of the tank with their own larger female oversight. I keep this in mind in not buying paired fish these days.
