First foray into saltwater! Calling this Dragon Reef because a friend just pointed out my main rock structure (left) looks like a dragon
DT is a Biocube 32 - got InTank filter basket and fish saver added!
Started 6 weeks ago with a coral QT tank so I could get some things going while I cycled my main tank! Once my QT was cycled 2 weeks later (fishless cycle), started with 3 blue leg hermits and 2 zoas. Followed dip procedure protocols for safety - not chancing any preventable things in my tank!
2 weeks later I got my Biocube and set it up to fishless cycle too! Also got 2 snails, 3 hermits, another zoa, and a gorgonian coral for the QT. Added live rock from a local fish shop to boost cycle. Finished cycling a few days ago, did a big water change, and started on my rockwork.
I did the super glue/sand method to anchor a bunch of pieces together before adding them. Took some trial and error and yeah you can see seams BUT I figure once everything establishes algae and such will smooth it all out
Everything tested perfect today so I added 2 zoas and the gorgonian (who was acting sad in quarantine) as well as 3 of my crabs and my larger snail. So far everyone is active and seems happy! Will be updating regularly as I add/change things.
I felt comfortable adding corals to the display now because I still haven't set up my fish QT so the tank will be fishless for at least another 60~ days. Also I'm impatient and wanted some movement added the gorgonian in a higher flow area and unintentionally made it look like a dragon - definitely keeping the theme! Added some Dragon's Breath macroalgae
My main focus of the tank will be corals, lots of crustaceans, and a few fun fish (firefish being my main)
