Patience. Let them, including the ‘victim’, get used to it. If you spring the door and it escapes, you may not get a second chance. I caught a rogue purple with this exact trap. I let it go in and out of the trap for a few days before triggering the door.

What kind of fish we talking about? You could try hooking it. Otherwise just wait it out with the trap.

Ahh, yes, often problematic. If it’s a very aggressive eater then you could hook him. I caught a sohal years ago that way. Seems cruel, but getting the hook out is pretty easy and doesn’t do any long term damage. Hook only works if it’s an aggressive feeder though; you dont want to hook all your other fish instead.

Have about 50 fish in the tank

Sohal isn’t that bad he chases the other tangs but no damage yet. But it’s only 6 inches

gotta wait it out. You could start feeding all food from the trap. Greed & hunger will take over.

Got the trap off a fellow reefer
Trap worked great. Caught it in first 30 mins. But my tank is 30 inches deep and when I went to go lift trap the gate lifted and it came out. So second time catching it is proving much harder. I wish the gate would of locked closed
