Sohal is s spectacular fish, but gets problematic as it grows. OK at 6”; holy terror at 8”. Hook works if the target is very aggressive to the food. If you’ve got multiple piggies, then dual hooks can work. Once a fish has been scared by the trap it will take a while for it to forget. Do try feeding only from the trap and don’t spring it until the target had gone in and out a few times.

Oh yeah. I haven’t kept one for a long time because once mine got to about 8-9” it just went insane. I might try again if or when I get that 2,000 gallon tank.

Took me a week to snatch the sohal. I placed nori and brine shrimp in the trap. I let the brine shrimp thaw in trap and opened trap door for two straight days and let he and all others swim in. The third day, as he went in for the shrimp, I locked him in and removed it

Took me 3 weeks to get my Melanurus out, every single fish went in except for him is like they sense it, that has not been the only time neither always the problematic fish are super causius lol

Patience if you can get him to feel comfortable I usually down the feeding and only feed In the trap he’s gonna get hungry enough

Yes that’s what I did

Funny thing is my melanurus is the easiest fish to catch in my tank

I use my net a lot to pick up old snail shells or frags that cone loose my tank is 30 inches deep with no sand and I simple can’t reach the bottom. It follows me around the tank waiting for me to upset the pods so it can eat them

I can't tell for sure but it looks like an aquamedic fish trap.
