Introduced a flame angel to my tank. Chocolate Tang stressed it to death. Removed said tang and introduced 2 more flames. Lost one and have one left. Are these angels tough to keep? Thinking about it, I’ve never seen a fully matured flame. If you have one, post a pic.

Whats a fully mature flame to you just curious. Theyre a pretty hardy fish and probably the most kept angel in the hobby

Harem of 5 in my tank, 1 male and 4 females. These are protogynous hermaphodies so it is easy to get a harem if your tank is big enough. All you need to do is add multiple but make sure there is one or less (none) male. They spawn frequently. As far as I know, I am the only one that ever photograph the male Flame angel with nuptial coloration

You need to look at the anal fin when the fins are fully extended. See the pictures of the female and male above
Hey, thanks again for your response. These were already my favorite fish, now that I’m learning about having multiple I’m stoked. Here are some pics of our current FA. Would you mind giving me ur opinion as to M/F? just want to make sure I’m looking at the right stuff.

That looks like a female but you need the fin fully extended. When the fins are semi-retracted they all look pointed. Just get small ones, they are all juveniles.
Look at the anal fin when it extended, you can’t miss.

so beautiful! cant wait to add my flame to the mix. I one on order made it through 2 weeks of QT and one week of observation then decided to die. was a real bummer one of my fav. fish.

on a side note talk about a dream team there. 2X china wrasse, regal angel purple tang and a harem of flames!

I am guessing you need a group? one could not just get two small ones and hope they pair up right??

your tank got me thing about my stocking plan.

OP: sorry /not sorry to hijack the thread :)

You can have pair of Flame angel. I got a video on the internet of my pair in a 65 gal that is doing the dance. I will see if I can find it and post it here.
Too tight of a space for him to really display so I moved them home to my 320 gal DT

nice!!
do you think a pair would vibe with the fallowing dwarfs angels:
1X Bi color in the tank 3"
coral beauty coming in 1-2 weeks
flame back
Eibli -if we can get one through QT
and the flames

lots of rock work to swim through and around 70x 30x 22 " IM 200 peninsula
or should I skip the flame back and Eibli and go for the pair of flames?

I don’t know. I normally keep single species of Dwarf Angels. Many years ago, 30+ I keep mixed group of them but that was when I was very inexperience. I am much more into the behavior of healthy fishes the last 20 years or more.

Have you mixed flame angels with other non dwarf angel species?

Oh yes 100%. Makes me consider a harem in my 300 instead of the anthias I planned! Hummm
Exactly where I'm at right now. After seeing Orion's pair of flames I'm considering getting a pair, though I'm not quite ready to nix the plan for a pair of genicanthus melanospilos instead.
