Frag tank height

Hello all,

I’m looking to upgrade my frag system from a 48”x24”x12”. Found a great deal on a 60”x24”20”. Has anyone had a 20” tall frag? I like my frag tanks to look like frag/displays so I’m thinking it will work, just worried about the 20” depth. I’ve never had anything deeper that 12”

Unless you have long arms and a short stand it’s going to be annoying to frag and do maintenance.

Than from @Tidal Gardens like a bit of a deeper tank because by the time you add the frag racks and overflow, your usable space is greatly reduced. I can see that. I have a small frag tank (IM25 EXT) when I do a water change a lot of frags are out of the water for a couple mins. I haven’t had an ill affects from it, but I am sure my corals would rather not be out of the water.

I have a 45G 36”x24x12 Frag and a 90G 48x24x18 which I consider more a “shallow reef”. 90G has sand and rock. 45G is BB and has some rock but mostly frag racks. At 20” you’re not really at a “frag tank” height anymore but you could definitely still set it up as a frag tank. You’d just need to get stronger lights to make up for the PAR loss from the tank height
