So my tank is 200 gallons and it’s down stairs where i only keep the room roughly at 62 degrees in the winter this is causing my heaters to run non stop and I’m evaporating 10 gallons every 4-5 days

I was debating to getting some full covers to use only during the winter time any ideas?

Is this something people do?
Is this something that could hurt my reef?

I was thinking of getting some 1/4 plexi and building some covers just to use during the winter

Ive got heavy glass covers on my tank due to having eels and dont have an issue. Its fowlr. I dont use a heater, my house is 72* year round and the tank stays at 77-78 naturally

Not gonna hurt anything except your lighting and ph possibly.. if you do decide to use them get lexan aka polycarbonate or glass. Acrylic will warp real fast and curl up.
What kind of thickness do you think i need in polycarbonate
I have a euro brace on the tank aswell

i keep small tanks. I cover but have very tiny vets. I also use an air pump to circulate and gas exchange. You could fully cover and add a large air pump or 2 in sump or anywhere else for more oxygen.

My basement tanks get covered in a sheet of polycarbonate from Menards during MN winters.
