Genuine question, why do people still buy Red Sea products?

Please read here before posting. Outside comments are not permitted per R2R's feedback forum policy. This is to allow the buyer and seller to have a streamlined conversation and hopefully come to a mutually satisfactory resolution in a negative transaction. If you would like to contribute your own feedback experience with either the buyer or seller, you may do so by creating your own feedback thread. Only the thread starter and vendor will have posting access. Thank you.

After seeing so many tanks explode through the years, and then witness red sea say there isn't a problem then why do we reefers continue to support that brand?

When we see premium priced red sea dosers stick on and crash tanks, why do we still support red sea products?

It's quite clear that this company doesn't care about the livestock we all keep.

So why do we give them our money?

Yeah the tank thing is a mark ….
But I have 5 reefwave, 4 LEds, 4 dosers, 3 skimmers, 3 reefmats ATO and a pump…
My take: reefwave have been solid, the skimmers solid also but better values are out there
Reefmats are best in class
Dosers solid but pricey
Leds solid but not very configurable/versatile
ATO is boody
Software is goofy at best, doesn't even rotate to landscape mode and isnt very user configurable

Typically wouldn’t use their products bc of their brand ethos regarding their tanks and failures. But my LFS stocks their aminos and they seem to be the best around. Looks like aquavitro makes a similar product called “fuel” and would consider switching due to this. Ultimately seachem sells a lot of snake oil products too, so I just pick and choose the products I want from each brand. I would never buy any hard goods from Red Sea though. Too many other good options out there.

One word: ecosystem

People tend to like products that have tons of accessories designed for it. I still think Redsea is one of the most esthetically pleasing tanks. The only thing their really missing now is an auto test lol.

But I'll never take the risk with one. At least not their bigger tanks. The nanos are fine but again very pricey.

Does the average buyer entering an LFS know about the tank issues? Probably more in the hobby then visit these forums. So long as LFS sell them then so will RS. Probably best ask an LFS why they keep selling it and don't be surprised if it's profit oriented. Are we then going to stop buying from an LFS because it would imply that they don't care about our livestock or floors.

Please ask reef beef this question

Then ask reefbuilders, the major blog who sells Red Sea you can win tank drawings

Let me know if you get any written commentary, whatsoever, at any time at all or if you just get ignored even after sixteen pages of bait requests to speak up.

I saw hundreds and hundreds of ads for can-win Red Sea tanks, Red Sea tank drawings, this last couple years. All I’ve been doing is kindly going around, making threads, asking those sellers if they regret this alignment now, or what can be done

Silence is amazing, it’s as quiet as a moonscape when account is due.

We buy them because entities we trust, keep enticing us to->because they make ad money from papa Red Sea.

I have on file countless statements from Red Sea buyers who didn’t know of the splits when they bought recently

Then it split, they googled it, and found out this goes back to ‘19

They then ask why no one was speaking about this, they’re asking from a damaged/harmed/now I hate the hobby perspective

To do that brings out reef sharks, hunters of opportunists.

Yet the ads remain…

But what if all Red Sea market chain sellers spoke up, vs cowarding down for the dollar? That demand would reverberate back to Red Sea, and they’d up their silicone game.

But we are now in a void of silence, zero accountability. Deleting some threads we don’t like about Red Sea…the ones that ask the hard questions :) and so the opposite of free marketing is happening. Suppression marketing is a better fit.

ad sellers that get money from Red Sea ad referrals don’t like when their rev enue stream is challenged.

But if we simply say nothing, and click the ad for the may win Red Sea tank, there’s calm in the ocean. No dodging, no deletes, podcasters don’t have to wither, censors won’t need their skills.

Posts like this, not from me but from buyers in general, will change this tide.

Not every reefing authority stays silent for the bucks

Humblefish, for example, has been warning readers preemptively for years now.

That’s rare in this market, someone who speaks on file about the matter, no prodding required, didn’t wait for the other guy to speak up first.

if we can assemble honest salesmen, this issue will stop. The issue persists into year five because honesty doesn’t pay the ad bills.
One of several examples

856DF1DF-E474-40B1-AE1F-BBA38F6C92E3.png

Over ten grand spent, wasn’t warned, has been a member here four years and still didn’t know

(mods, that means if you make a sticky warning people…it means you’d be taking an obvious trend you’ve been seeing and you’d be using that selflessly to warn new comers in 2025 of this obvious risk, so that they’re helped?)

If I stepped over the line hinting we could use this sites power to help friends, preemptively, who just above showed they got no such help: I’m sorry.

The reason that nuance didn’t dawn on me prior is because in no universe where I ran a large site doling out reef help would I even have to be asked, I’d have been the first to report the pattern in 2020.

I trust red seas hydrometer to hold water, it does. Been good on salinity ten years with just that one so far.

I bought a used 425XL.... It never crossed my mind to google for issues or quality. So I suspect that's the #1 reason people buy RS tanks.

I have their LEDs, skimmer, reefmat, all work great even if the app is funky.

Will I buy any more RS after learning about the tank BS - Nope.

soapbox begs the question:

Am I allowed to ask for reef2reef’s stance on the matter of Red Sea breaks and ads I saw here to win Red Sea tanks?

or is that off limits bigtime, like an unaskable question?

Are you guys still going to run new ads for the tanks, what about eurobraced ones? curious to know.
