I'll go out on a limb here, if you don't know what it is when buying a used tank like that, you would probably do well to steer clear of it.

I 2nd, "closed loop". It's a means of using a single pump to randomly circulate water throughout the tank.

It's an old school means but still has its purposes.

They're not hard to figure out and fairly easy to maintain. Keeping in mind there are some draw backs to them, you can easily read up about them and decide for yourself.
