They're mollusk parasites. They hang out on your other snails shells and eat them. They also loooove to eat clams.

Vermetids are the only unwelcome hitchhiker I've had (so far) -- never really caused a problem and, after scary initial population explosion, I now have very few.
*lots of aggressive crushing on my part for a while but now don't see any very often

Found one asterina/aquilonastra/whatever star on a coral (before dip) once.
Was tempted to save it and introduce it but decided not to.
It was a really nice looking, perfectly symmetrical one.
*never seen any in my tank (yet)

Not a lot you haven't seen in 20 years. Bacterial infections. Lots of red bugs, flatworms,pyramid snails, and so forth.

I had a gorilla crab on an acro one time. I noticed a spot on the coral with tissue loss that looked more like bite marks. I saw a hairy crab with blue eyes and black claws, and did a R2R search. I put it in a separate tank with algae at the time rather than disposing of it. Pretty neat though to see different species, even when they cause trouble.

I checked that I never had a bad hitchhiker only good ones. However I have intentionally added bad actors to my tank, LOL!

Picked other:
Caught a gorilla crab, added it back because I thought it was a decorator, but then realised it was a gorilla and kept putting off trying to catch it.
The reason I chose other is because it never ended up doing anything.
