Amino acids. I've made this mistake twice now with different brands. Everything will be going great so I get temped to tinker and do more to get more growth. I start adding amino acids, but don't see any improvement like people say I will so I just keep putting it in figuring "what can it hurt". This coupled with extending my light cycle too long has been the formula for dinos.

Just kidding, I love her dearly. Believe it or not LED lights. Sold them and went back to T5

my first 40gal tank, I got upgrade fever way too fast, shoulda gone bigger to start
I feel that my first tank is a 30gal i would have loved to start with a 80 or 90 gal but me living on the 3rd floor of a apartment complex is not allowing for it because of the weight the floor can handle sadly

Definitely the AI primes, not because they dont work. Rather I was told by a lfs that 2 was enough for a 75 gallon 4' tank. I've added extra light and am ok now but have 2 power bricks instead of 4 would be nice.

Cheap heaters. Cost me hundreds in seahorses.
Ohh a seahorse tank sounds nice ! What has your experience been ? Like care and such ? Was thinking of getting a seahorse tank in the far future if you could throw some bits of knowledge in

I wish I would have went with live rock over dry rock. My pico tank with live rock has no algae issues but my nano with dry rock? Different story
Get a tuxedo urchin! This was a complete game changer for my nano when snails were not cutting it.

Lights, starting out I should have bought the light I wanted.

Not to say they were bad lights. But the type of light was just not them.

Hygger, Fluval, noop and NICREW. In the end Kessil was the light I wanted. All that money. I could have gotten 2 lol.
Got any nicrews for sale??

I regret a “yellow chromis” which is a real but uncommon fish. What happened is the supplier said they had them, the store ordered yellow chromis, they came in, and I bought one.

A few weeks later I notice this guy is not acting like a yellow chromis, and the colors are changing and it doesn’t look like one anymore.

I call the store and they realized it also, and said the supplier ran out and substituted yellow damsel on the order and forgot to let them know.

Needless to say he’s a nightmare anytime I attempt to add a fish…here he is chasing and attacking a new tomini, and the damage he caused

We have a tuxedo in our tank! It has definitely cut down on some of our algae issues!

PAR meter (they can be rented or borrowed in many Cases)
A fancy sump, when a home-made one could easily be made with an aquarium
Ozone. difficult to manage, never sure exactly how to dose completely correctly
UV - maintenence, bulb changes, never saw a positive effect
