Ask LFS about prostar (bang for your buck, you could get a 150 in budget) also tidleine crystaline by planet aquariums.
I’ll second that…..they are in Jacksonville……very happy with mine at half the price of others. Running 5 years now. Dry dry dry…….comes with matching stand and all the stuff to get your system running.

How do you like the sump? Would you go with a custom sump instead?

Hey fellow reefers,

The time has just about come to start a new build and I need help deciding on what tank I should purchase.

I am debating on a 3 foot tank as the maximum size and I don’t want to spend more than $3,000 for the tank and stand.

I have been eyeing the
innovative marine ext 112g (within budget)
Odd size at 3ft by 3 ft so lighting may be costly

Uns 90g reef system (over budget)
Sump work is incredible with a built in ato and just overall build quality.

But if there are other options that I haven’t seen or find I’d love your opinion!

I’d like to make a purchase within the next 2 weeks.

Thanks in advance!
I have a 112 and love it. the depth is what makes it unique rather than the 24" standard.

I have 2 pro star 150 48” tanks running side by side in my living room.

One planted and one full reef system.

Decent tanks but they pale in comparison to uns tanks both top and bottom. The sumos are not great and won’t fit any fleece roller without heavily modifying it etc.

I have success but I’m looking at something better for my future tank.

What lighting are you running?

I’m seriously debating this tank but the logistics of moving it upstairs with my wife would be very difficult. Although the depth sounds like a real beauty.

Ohh that’s sexy. Thank you for your help.

Do you happen to work there?

Maybe I can go with the 18” and fit right in my happy place with both cost and desired look.
No, but I have ordered 72x30x25 display a 72x24x24 sump canopy and stand. Joe (the owner) took me on a video tour of the factory and it is a very professional operation. I have seen these tanks at a friend's house and they are awesome. A bunch of folks on R2R have all expressed extreme satisfaction.
P.S. you can have the sump configured the way you want it

I have an SC Aquariums custom, 42x24x24. Needed it to fit between my windows. I love it, have had it about 5 years, I love having the eurobrace.

When I get a new tank in 10 years I would get one with an external overflow box for better aquascaping opportunities. I hate having the overflow box. 2 fish have jumped into it thus far. I like the 24 inch depth. Water height goes to about 22.5"high. Cost around $1000 back pre covid prices. Make a sump out of a 20 long and spend the rest on lights reef controller and livestock. Make your own stand if you can tons of stand tutorials on YouTube with 2x4 construction that you can then wrap with molding and nicer woods

The difference in width is a huge cost saver.

Does height difference not make much of a difference in terms of cost reducing?

I actually prefer wider and longer vs taller.

And I tried the custom builder but quite frankly I don’t understand what half of the options mean and it’s a bit confusing.

I was looking for an external overflow that’s also euro braced for additional safety as I hate seeing the bowing of my current 48” rimless tanks.
i get it. Here to help if you want to talk through. We love talking tanks.

My current tank is an INT IM112 and I love the odd 3'x3' shape. Using a single XR30 with the multi arm kit/track and it seems more than sufficient coverage.

did you get the complete reef option or the ext112?

I asked them about the differences and have not gotten a response about it thus far so I have no idea what the difference is?

I think I’m heavily interested in the 3ft cube with a 20” height similar to the innovative marine tank I’m eyeing. External overflow and eurobraced

What would something like that run?

Take a look here. The owner is an active member here at R2R, and by all accounts does excellent work.

Agreed. They are more expensive, but what you lose out of your pocketbook, you gain in quality. They are consumate professionals and give GREAT support. My only other recommendation would be to avoid Red Sea.
